NEGRIL, Hanover — Sandra Williams, a cocktail waitress employed to Sandals Negril here will leave the island next week for a one- month stint at the Sandals Royal Bahamian resort, as part of the resort's staff exchange programme.

Since the inception of the programme in January, Sandals Negril has played host to more than 20 employees from the Bahamas and in June they welcomed Shervonder Kemp, a concierge agent along with Shamon Rolle, a front office agent from Sandals Royal Bahamian to join the team for a month.

Under the programme, team members are given the opportunity to travel between the different properties in Jamaica and the Bahamas to work in their respective departments, while experiencing the culture of Sandals and that of the islands.

"The Staff Exchange Programme was formed out of a need to provide staff with relevant exposure to the Caribbean islands and to give them a first-hand look at how the different resorts operate," said Cindy Allman, Sandals' regional public relations coordinator.

She explained that the programme serves as a form of on-the-job training for the team members, as they are exposed to various ways of getting tasks done within their respective departments.

"A major advantage of the programme is the awareness it creates, also, team members are knowledgeable about all the resorts that they visit," added Allman.

Training Managing at Sandals Negril Kaymaureen Davis said "It's a wonderful learning experience for the

team members."

"When they return to their departments they help to implement things they saw at the other resorts, making their department more efficient. I also find that the team members return to the property more aware and you can see that they have grown professionally," she explained.

According to Allman, the success of the programme has triggered plans to include resorts from St Lucia, Antigua and Turks and Caicos.

Meanwhile, participants in the programme have expressed gratitude to the resort's management for the initiative.

"I am truly blessed to be working for a company that takes the development of their staff seriously. I am happy I was chosen to come to Jamaica. The experience and things that I have been exposed to is something I will take with me," said Shaman Rolle, a front office agent at Sandals Royal Bahamian.

The team members that are chosen for the programme are seen as ambassadors for the property; as such only the employees who boast an excellent track record and are known to exceed guest expectations are sent to represent the resorts.
