STEWART TOWN, Trelawny - MEMBER of Parliament for South Trelawny Marissa Dalrymple-Philibert has appealed to the Digicel Foundation for assistance to construct a playfield in the Stewart Town community in honour of the late Fitz Albert Christie, the former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the Ulster Spring division.

"I am inviting Digicel to partner with me to help young people in this area, because presently they are playing in the cemetery in Stewart Town and they encroach on the Westwood High School at times," Dalrymple-Philibert said.

She added that Christie had donated lands which "we have started to prepare", to create a sports area for the young people in Stewart Town.

"I am committed to it (the playfield) because I know that sports is an important part of the development of all people of this country," Dalrymple Philibert said.

Christie, a former deputy mayor of Falmouth died last month after brief illness. He was 69.

The South Trelawny MP was speaking to the Observer West recently, after the Digicel Foundation officially handed over the newly refurbished multi-purpose sports court to the 130-year-old Westwood High School in the parish.

The facility was upgraded at a cost of $2.5million.
