SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Former champions St James High continued their preparation for the upcoming ISSA daCosta Cup schoolboys football competition with a dominant display on their way to winning the second STETHS Cup pre-season competition at the St Elizabeth Technical high sports Complex last weekend .
Led by tournament MVP Allan Ottey and top scorers Jason Malcolm and Cion Peterkin, St James High won both games played while amassing 13 points to run away easy winners.
Teams earn one point for each scored as well as three points for a win and one for a draw.
St James High scored eight goals in their two wins as well as the six points for the two wins but lost a point after a player picked up a red card in one of their games.
Manning Cup team Bridgeport also lost a point because of a red card as they finished second on six points. Last year's champions St Elizabeth Technical was third with five points while Garvey Maceo finished at the bottom with just a point.
St James also dominated the sectional prizes that were voted on by the four coaches as in addition to Ottey winning the MVP award, Alwayne Barrett took the award for the top midfielder while Malcolm and Peterkin shared the scoring award with three goals each.
The other award winners were Shamal Briscoe of Garvey Maceo who was the top goalkeeper, Tyshan Rainford of Bridgeport who was named the top defender while Derah Vaccianna of Steths was the top forward.
In Saturday's opening game, St James who will face Spot Valley High in one of two opening games on September 11 beat Bridgeport High 4-2 while STETHS edged Garvey Maceo 1-0.
On Sunday, St James beat STETHS 4-1 in what turned out to be the finals after Bridgeport had beaten Garvey Maceo 2-1.
