Start of St James Football leagues delayed
BY PAUL A REID Observer West Writer
Thursday, February 16, 2012
MONTEGO BAY, St James - THE start of the St James Football Association's Senior and Division One leagues have been further pushed back by another five days and will now start on Monday, according to reports.
League Director Gregory Daley told the Observer West yesterday that the leagues that were originally set to start today will instead be getting underway next Monday afternoon.
Daley said the FA was to meet with the teams later this week to decide the format the competition would take.
The Observer West has learned that negotiations are almost complete for a new sponsor that will replace Claro, the sponsors for the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, 10 teams will play in the Senior league while 11 will participate in the Division One competition.
Granville City, Little Miami, Montego Bay Boys Club, Melbourne FC, Violet Kickers, Salt Spring Roses, Revelation, Mt Villa as well as promoted teams Rosemount United and Norwood Strikers will contest the Senior League.
Last season's Division Two winners Hart Street and beaten finalists Lilliput Rovers have been promoted to the Division One League and will play alongside Reggae Youths, Seaview, Abes, Juniors, Kempshot, Marl Road, Westgreen, Salt Spring United, and Barrett Town.
