Thursday, June 26, 2008

COPSE, Hanover-

The Westhaven Children's Home in this rural community last Friday received a much needed boost when members of the United States Coast Guard undertook major improvement works at the facility.

The project, initiated by the Rotary Club of Montego Bay East, saw the coast guards and Rotarians bushing the yard, building stairways and effecting repairs to damaged doors and windows.

" We are passionate about the task and welcomed the opportunity to share with the children at the home," a member of the coastguard said during the exercise.

The group has also pledged to continue assisting the home, which caters to roughly 80 children who are either mentally or physically challenged.

The Westhaven Children's Home was established in 1986 by a group of citizens led by Gloria Viera, with 12 children. The home is under the jurisdiction of and is licensed by the Children's Services Division of the Ministry of Health.
