On Sunday, 12-year-old Shelicia Haughton, a grade seven student, was crowned champion girl in the under-16 section of the Burger King Interscholastic Boys and Girls Singles Championship, staged at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre. She was subsequently adjudged the most outstanding player in the competition.

Haughton, who was in scintillating form, was awarded the trophy for the most outstanding player after cutting down top seed Monique Hanson 7-6 (3), 7-5 in the semi-finals and blowing away Sara Orrett of Wolmer's Girls 6-0, 6-3 to clinch the Girls 16 title.

Horatio Ludford, a grade eight student also reached the final round of the boy's under-16, but unfortunately had to withdraw from the competition, due to injury.

Last Friday, the school was placed first overall in the Four H National Achievemenrt Day held at Denbigh, Clarendon.

The school dominated the agro-processing competition, in which Lorna Murray placed first, while 13-year-old Shani Walters, a grade eight student, who was the 2008 champion in the sandwich-making competition, last week walked away with first prize in the arranged vegetable salad section.

Travis Davis won the cook-off, an on-the-spot cooking competition in which the participants are given
food items for which original recipes are created spontaneously and prepared.

At the recently concluded GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys' and Girls' Championships at the National Stadium the school secured three points in their first year of participation in the elite secondary school athletics competition.

Nicolette Martin, competing in the 400 Class Three and Ronique Williams who competed in the 1500 Class
One race salvaged the three precious points for Hanover's sole technical school.

An upbeat Derlin Roper, who has been the principal of the school since March, expressed that the recent success served as an inspiration to the
student population.

"The recent successes are motivating factors for the students and it will put the school in a better light. The students are now buying into whatever is happening at the school," he said.
