FLAMINGO BEACH, Trelawny -
The bodies of businessman Thomas Chambers and his wife, Marjoke, were discovered by the seaside in this small, upscale community yesterday, almost three weeks after they were reported missing.

Police said fisherman trawling in waters near the abandoned highway which disects the swanky community and the sea, discovered the decomposing body of Mrs Chambers lying face down at about 10:30 am and raised an alarm.

Chambers was found soon after.
The hands of both were bound behind them.

Flamingo Beach residents say foul odour tormented them since Sunday.

The police say a handbag believed to be that of Marjoke was also found in the vicinity of the gruesome discoveries.

"A brown handbag containing cosmetic and an invoice book bearing the name M Chambers were found near the bodies that is why we have concluded that they are the Chambers couple," a senior investigator told the Observer West.

The investigator also revealed that based on the advanced state of decomposition immediate burials will be ordered for the couple.

Up to late yesterday evening the police were not certain of how the couple were killed.

Residents of the Flamingo Beach community - located near the Trelawny and St James border - who gathered near the crime scene, which was cardoned off by police from the Falmouth Police Division, disclosed that since Sunday they have been tormented by a strong, foul odour which they thought emanated from animal carcasses which are usually dumped in that area.

Thomas, 63, and his 61-year-old wife have been missing from their Spot Valley home, located in a hilly section of St James, less than 12 miles from the resort city of Montego Bay, since June 12.

The police said that the two left the house at about 5:00 pm for an undisclosed location and had not been seen or heard from since.

Their mode of dress at the time they went missing is unknown the police stated.

Their daughter, Wendy Lee, who lives in Kingston filed a 'missing person' report at the Barrett Town Police Station, a few miles from where her parents lived late Friday, after several unsuccessful attempts to contact them.

Thomas, who the police said is described as a stout man of about 173 centimetres, was a former president of the St James Cricket Association. He sponsored a number of community football leagues in the parish.
A real estate developer and a farmer, he unsuccessfully contested the Salt Spring division in 2007 local government elections, on People's National Party ticket.

His slightly shorter wife - also described as stout - was a former national hockey player in Holland.
She taught Physical Education locally sometime ago and coached a few hockey teams.
