Noisy promoter fined $65,000
The Westmoreland police have been cracking down on persons who breach the Noise Abatement Act and only Tuesday, Worrel King of “King and King” Promotions was fined $65,000 for the offence.
He is the seventh promoter charged in the parish last month alone.
Reports are that King was having a stage show at the Llandilo Cultural Centre on Saturday, April 20 when he was given a letter by the superintendent asking him to shut off the music by 2:00 am.
But when the police turned up at the scene minutes after 4:00 am, the music was still blaring.
They ordered him to turn it off and he was charged for failing to obey the Superintendent’s instruction and for breaches of the Noise Abatement Act.
When he appeared before the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court earlier this week, he pleaded guilty and was fined $50,000 for failing to obey the superintendent’s instruction and an additional $15,000 or three months imprisonment for breaking the law.
The other six promoters that were charged were all fined $15,000 or three months in prison for the offence last month.
