Profile on Christopher Jobson
IN the run up to general elections slated for October 16, the Jamaica Observer’s Western Bureau continues its focus on the candidates in this part of the island.
Who are the candidates and why should you vote for them?
This week we feature Jamaica Labour Party candidate for North Trelawny, Christopher Jobson.
Christopher Jobson, a newcomer to the political scene, was born at Deeside in Trelawny on September 11, 1971.
Now the 31-year-old father of three says he has big plans for the people of his constituency, particularly the young.
Prior to joining the JLP campaign trail just about two years ago Jobson, a graduate of the William Knibb High school in the parish, was involved in a series of community activities including:
* repainting the Martha Brea bus shed and the Daniel Town community centre;
* bushing and cleaning the stretch of road leading from Rock to Hague; and
* sponsoring football competitions in addition to upgrading playfields and roads.
Jobson, who will face People’s National Party candidate, Dr Patrick Harris in the upcoming elections, answers the question why should Jamaicans vote for you?
According to the MP hopeful he will:
* offer proper representation for the people of North Trelawny and ensure the proper collection and disposal of garbage;
* see to the development of a fully equipped and operational fire station;
* re-establish the police post in Falmouth and construct a new divisional headquarters for the police officers;
* renovate the derelict buildings in Falmouth as part of the Heritage Tourism programme and develop the Windsor Cave to include a nature park and hiking trails to the cockpit country;
* develop the Elleston Wakeland Centre into a mini-stadium; and
* re-introduce the Trelawny carnival that was started by former JLP Member of Parliament Keith Russell.
In addition, Jobson said he intends to start a training programme for the young, with students drawn from three or four high schools within the constituency.
Training, he said, will be undertaken in Information Technology, Home Management and Clothing and Textile.
