Two Trelawny residents on corruption rap
TWO persons were arrested for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act in Falmouth, Trelawny on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Charged with bribery and conspiracy to bribe are Madge McBean and John Anderson, both of Bounty Hall, Trelawny.
The police reported that at about 10:00 am on Monday, Anderson was driving a truck along the Falmouth to Martha Brae main road when he was stopped during a police operation. One of the policemen was checking Anderson’s documents when he detected that he could not read. The policeman then issued Anderson with a ticket for making false declaration to obtain a drivers licence. Anderson allegedly offered the policeman $10,000.00 to cancel the ticket and made arrangements to pay at a later date.
The policeman arranged a sting operation with the assistance of the Falmouth Criminal Investigation Bureau on Monday September 8, met with Anderson and McBean in Falmouth where undercover agents observed them handing money to him.
McBean was held, however, Anderson managed to escape. McBean was charged and brought before the Falmouth Resident Magistrate Court where she was granted bail to re-appear in Court on October 8. Anderson was held Wednesday in Falmouth and granted bail in the sum of $30,000.00. He is to appear in court on Wednesday, September 17.
Unity Church united in prayer
Dozens of Jamaicans on Thursday gathered at Unity of Jamaica in Kingston for the 10th annual World Day of Prayer, called ‘Silent Unity’.
The Jamaican worshippers were among the hundreds of thousands of Unity church members across the globe inn the annual event.
This sacred event has traditionally been held on the second Thursday of September, which this year fell on September 11, the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“There is an even greater need for prayer as it helps centre ourselves and find that place of inner peace,” said Rev Valerie Freckleton of the Unity Church in Kingston.
Fatal crash at Pepper
A 36 year-old man was killed and two persons injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Pepper main road in St Elizabeth Thursday afternoon.
Lloyd Kepple, of North Hampton, died, while Clifford Johnson, 48, of Ballards Valley, both in St Elizabeth, and Henry Samuels, 42, of Palmers Cross in Clarendon were injured.
The police said that at about 3:10 pm, an International Truck driven by Joseph Brown, 30, of Lionel Town, Clarendon was travelling towards Santa Cruz when he reportedly ran into the rear of a Toyota Camry motor car driven by Samuels. Brown lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and ran in the rear of a Leyland Truck driven by Johnson.
Kepple, who was a passenger in the Leyland truck, sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot. Johnson and Samuels also sustained injuries and were taken to the Black River Hospital where they were treated and released.
