Cops seize 200 rounds of ammo in St James
WESTERN BUREAU — The Montego Bay police on Sunday seized more than 200 rounds of ammunition in Lethe, St James, bringing to 873 the number of bullets retrieved in the parish since the start of the year.
According to the parish’s crime chief, Deputy Superintendent Derrick Knight, at about 12:50 pm the police were carrying out an operation in Lethe when a pouch containing 202 nine-millimeter cartridges was found hidden in bushes along a dirt track.
No one was arrested in connection with the seizure; however DSP Knight said the police are searching for two men in connection with the find.
The crime chief told the Observer that over the last seven days the police in St James have recovered three firearms, bringing the number of illegal guns seized in the parish to 53 since January.
Three persons have been arrested and charged in connection with those firearms finds, including 22 year-old Deno Blacks, a data entry operator of Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.
Blacks was held, Saturday, while riding a motorcycle in the Westgate Shopping Centre area. A .38 ruger revolver and four rounds of ammunition were reportedly taken from him.
Richard Thomas, an unemployed 17 year-old from Norwood, was arrested and charged after he reportedly tried to dispose of a home-made gun on Thursday. And Lilliput resident, Steven Reece, 22, was held with a firearm and two rounds of .38 cartridges after he and another man reportedly held up and robbed a restaurant in Montego Bay on Monday.
They are all booked to appear in court later this week.
