American, Canadian on drug charges
AN American and a Canadian were arrested and charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act in separate incidents at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James on Saturday.
Twenty-seven year-old Clifford Reid, an auto-body man of South Clinton Street, New Jersey, USA was charged with possession of, dealing in and attempting to export cocaine, while 27 year-old Brent Young, a construction worker in Ontario, Canada is facing similar charges for ganja.
Police report that at approximately 12:45 pm, Reid was about to board a flight to New Jersey when he was stopped and searched at a security checkpoint. One hundred and one pellets of cocaine, weighing just under a kilogram (two pounds), were allegedly found strapped to his body.
In the second incident, narcotics police searched two suitcases that were allegedly checked in by Young, who was about to board a flight destined to Ontario. The agents said they found false compartments in the suitcases containing 14 packages of ganja, weighing an estimated 17.3 kilograms (38 pounds).
Both men were arrested, charged and booked to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today.
