A six-year-old girl is dead and her two siblings, aged 11 and 16, hospitalised with serious injuries after their machete-wielding father attacked them as they slept yesterday morning.

The children’s mother, Janet Moore, was also attacked.

She was found suffering from multiple stab wounds at Diamond Road in the Stony Hill area of St Andrew. She was listed, late yesterday evening, as critically injured and fighting for life.

The injured children are:

. Goldene Anderson, 16, whose right hand was severed and her left wrist almost cut off. She was also chopped in the head;

. Kaydian, 11, who was chopped on the left side of her face and also lost three fingers on her left hand;

. Ta-Joni, six, died after being chopped twice in the back of her head and once in her neck.

They were attacked at 29 Crescent Road in the Kencot area of Kingston where they lived with their parents. Kaydian and Ta-Joni were admitted to the Bustamante Hospital for Children where Ta-Joni died while undergoing treatment.

After hacking the defenceless children with the machete, “Bigga” attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself from the limb of an ackee tree. But lawmen and neighbours, who saw him struggling with the noose around his neck, cut him down from the tree and revived him. He is now under police guard in hospital.

Police suspect that the bizarre attack began with Rhoden stabbing Moore several times before pushing her from a Toyota Corolla motor car he was driving. He then returned to the house and attacked the children, chopping them all over their bodies.

Kaydian reportedly managed to escape her machete-wielding father and ran to a nearby bar where she reported the attack. Some neighbours were also confronted with the gruesome sight of a wounded Goldene running from the house.

“She manage fi get away and run outside after her hand chop off. A run she a run ’round the house and a bawl out why you see so much blood on the walls,” one distraught resident said, pointing to splashes of the young girl’s blood on the outside of the humble dwelling.

The inside of the home looked like a battle zone. A mattress on which the three youngsters slept was overturned and the room in which the attack took place had bloodstained walls, furniture and drapes.

Moore and Rhoden were together for 14 years. According to neighbours, Rhoden often beat her and she had signalled her intention to end the relationship.

“Him beat her all the while. One time him break her hand. She pack up her things and plan fi leave him and that’s why him chop up the whole a dem,” one resident said.

Irate residents destroyed the car that Rhoden used to operate a taxi after news of the attack spread yesterday.

“That wicked bastard should a dead. Them should never cut him down,” one angry woman said.

However, a man who claimed to have assisted in cutting Rhoden down maintained that he would probably have suffered less if he had been allowed to die.

“A man like that must live and face him judgment. A man can chop him own pickney?” he asked, obviously upset.
