Man remanded for five year-old’s fiery death
Danny Grey, 43, from Retrieve, Hanover was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Lucea Resident Magistrate’s Court this week to answer murder and arson charges in connection with the death of a five year-old boy.
Danny was last week charged by the Lucea police for the death of little Anthony Grey, who burnt to death as flames devoured a car in which he sat.
The police report that at about 2:30 pm last Wednesday, Vallin Hylton parked his Nissan AD Wagon motor car in the Sandy Bay Square with a female teacher and the small boy aboard.
Shortly afterwards, the police said, the teacher left the vehicle to make purchases at a nearby shop, while Hylton and the boy waited in the car.
The police said that a few minutes later, Danny approached the car, poured a flammable liquid into the vehicle and used a lighter to set the car ablaze. He reportedly had a long-running dispute with Hylton.
As the fuel-fed fire quickly spread through the vehicle, Hylton managed to escape from the car. The youngster was reportedly trapped in the vehicle and was burnt to death.
Danny later fled the scene but was taken into custody after cops held him as he was in a bus in the Lucea area of the parish.
He is booked to re-appear in court on January 19 to answer to the charges.
Man freed of sexual assault charge
Johnny Mills, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 19 year-old woman at a wake, walked out of the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court a free man this week after the judge made a ‘no order’ in the matter.
The judge ruled after Mills’ lawyer, Winston Douglas, requested that the matter be withdrawn because the complainant had told cops her allegations were false, and then disappeared.
The matter first came before the court on December 22 and since then, Mills made three other appearances. However, the court was told on Wednesday that despite several attempts, cops have been unable to locate the complainant.
Teen remanded for allegedly wounding elderly man
Maurice Bowen, 19, who reportedly used a machete to chop a 77 year-old man above one of his eyes, was denied bail when he appeared in the Montego Bay RM Court this week.
The Rose Heights, St James resident has been charged with felonious wounding and is booked to return to court on December 22, when the matter will again be mentioned.
According to the clerk-of-courts, the attack took place at about 1:30 pm on May 31 of this year. The court was told that the teen and the elderly man got into an argument after a football ended up in the 77 year-old’s yard.
During the fracas, the elderly man reportedly used a mop stick to hit the teen, who then used a machete to inflict a wound to the man’s face.
