Cops to face ID parade over alleged rape of Negril prostitute
The Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) is to hold an identification parade in Negril for six cops accused of raping a prostitute on a beach in Negril, Westmoreland last month.
“We will definitely be holding an identification parade for the six accused policemen but the date has not been finalised,” BSI chief Granville Gauze told the Sunday Observer.
Following the alleged incident, the cops were transferred to Montego Bay, St James by Assistant Commissioner Linton Latty, who has ordered the BSI to investigate the report. Latty said the move to replace them was to create transparency and maintain the citizen/police relationship until the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) made a decision.
It has been alleged that between the night of March 25 and 26, the complainant was walking on a beach in Negril. She was stopped by a group of uniformed policemen who engaged her in a conversation after which she agreed to have sexual intercourse with one of the cops.
Further allegations are that while both were engaged in sexual intercourse, the other policemen demanded that they, too, be allowed to get in on the action. Against the prostitute’s objections, the other five cops took turns sexually assaulting her.
Gauze said the completed file would be sent to the DPP to determine if criminal action should be taken.
