Sandals hotels join forces to clean beach
The four Negril hotels in the Sandals Resorts chain last month formed what they called a ‘Western Alliance’ to clean up the Long Bay Beach Park in that resort town.
Team members from the four hotels – Beaches Sandy Bay Negril, Beaches Negril, Negril Beach Gardens Resort, and Sandals Negril Beach Resort and Spa – armed themselves with rakes and giant garbage bags to clear debris from the beach, which is popular with Jamaicans and visitors.
“The initiative will initially aim to create a sustainable programme to improve the cleanliness of the beach park,” said Tamara Christie, Beaches Sandy Bay’s public relations manager.
According to Christie, the programme is open to anyone who lives, works or visits the area. The organisers also expect that the Negril community will support the initiative which will expand to an environmental education programme for residents.
