The Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards
It’s countdown time for us now at the Food page as we approach the 7th Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards.
How time flies when there’s good food on the table! It seems like just the other day that it all began at Redbones, the Blues Café. Our guest speaker was le bon vivant himself, Minister John Junor. We then moved to the courtyard of Devon House (thanks to Patrick Smith), where we were encouraged by the words of Essence’s food editor Jonelle Nash.
It was full steam ahead after that with food historian Jessica Harris, Chef Eric Georges Farge, from France (how can we ever forget that special dinner chez French ambassador Pierre Antoine Berniard and his wife Luisa?) Food writer Judy Batyra, restaurant entrepreneur Delius Shirley and chef extraordinaire Cindy Hutson, our amazing duo from the Caribbean islands of St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, chefs Orlando Satchell and Khalid Mohammed, who spoke to cuisine excellence in the region.
This time around, our special guests will be coming in from that formidable eatery Upstairs on the Harvard Square, Cambridge.
More anon!
Our judges this year, Natasha Kessler, Gassan Azan, Tracy Hamilton, Maurine Capleton, Norma Shirley, Gary Ferguson and Peter Bunting have been busy tasting some truly amazing new food items. Our recent tasting of the fresh tilapia from Longville Park farms in Old Harbour have turned us all on to this locally-raised fresh tilapia delivered six days per week.
The more on this fish treat is the fact that there’s also a catering arm, so shoppers need only contemplate enjoying the delicious fish.
Naturally, we’re delighted to introduce Donovan ‘Donnie’ Bunting (albeit the food side) to as many persons as possible.
