St Lucia police nab three in armoured truck robbery
CASTRIES, St Lucia (AP) – Three men were arrested yesterday and charged with robbing an armured truck in St Lucia’s largest-ever cash heist, police said.
The three were charged with holding up a Brinks armoured truck on June 2 and stealing Eastern Caribbean $360,000 (US$135,000) belonging to the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and the St Lucia Cooperative Bank, police spokesman Modestus Louis said.
The truck had been delivering the money from the southern town of Vieux Fort to Castries, the capital, about 30 miles (50 kilometres) to the north.
The three charged in the case – taxi driver Randolph John and unemployed St Lucians Leonard Daniel and Anthony Callender – are from the rural community of Forestierre, just east of the capital.
Police declined to say whether they had recovered any of the money.
