Eight alleged drug dons back to court today
THE extradition hearings for eight alleged drug kingpins will continue in the Half Way Tree Criminal Court today.
During yesterday’s court appearance, defence lawyers argued that Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle had no authority to hear the extradition application as the authorisation document from the National Security Ministry was not presented in court.
After a three-hour delay, Crown Counsel Georgiana Fraser explained that the authenticated documents had not been served on the battery of defence lawyers within the specified 60-day period. The documents, she said, were in the court computer’s memory, but the documents had not been printed because there was no ink in the printer.
Those who will return to court today are Norris “Deedo” Nembhard, Herbert Henry, police corporal Robroy “Spy” Williams, Vivian Dalley, Glenford Williams, Colombian national Lois Miguel Arias, Dennis Petagay, and Adrian Armstrong a Montego Bay Cambio dealer.
Meanwhile, narcotics head ACP Carl Williams confirmed last night that Dennis “Den Den” Gayle, one of two Montego Bay men taken into custody on Tuesday, was released later the same day.
Gayle was held after cops raided a Westgate Hills home. His burgundy Lexus, laptop computer and documents were seized before he was flown into Kingston for questioning.
