T&T protestor detained during illegal march
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) – Hundreds of people held an anti-crime protest at Trinidad’s airport Sunday and police detained an opposition supporter who allegedly led the demonstration, officials said.
About 300 protesters drove in a motorcade to Piarco International Airport and were stopped by police on the airport access road, Deputy Police Commissioner Trevor Paul said. They did not have a required police permit to demonstrate, he said.
When police told them they could not protest, they ignored the warning and began marching towards the airport terminal, police said.
The marchers were led by Harry Harnarine, head of the Hindu Credit Union and a supporter of the opposition United National Congress, Paul said. Police detained him and two others on suspicion of leading an illegal march, he said.
Wildlife head fired for exporting dolphins without approval
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) – The head of Guyana’s wildlife management authority has been fired for allegedly authorising the export of dolphins and other animals without approval from the government and in violation of international agreements.
The wildlife authority’s board sent a letter on Saturday to the agency’s director, Khalawhan, saying it had terminated his contract for allowing more than two dozen dolphins to be exported to Mexico this year.
The letter said that he breached government and international restrictions, including the UN Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
No further details were available including where the dolphins were sent in Mexico. Officials also accused Khalawhan of allowing the exportation of anteaters and rare birds without approval.

The men did, however, confirm they had just flown in from Bogota.
