Two charged with St Mary double murder

Claremont, St Mary – Two men who have been charged with the July 3 murder of St Mary businessman Winston Chin and his wife Eileen will face the Port Maria Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

Christopher “Garth” Edgehill, 28, and 24 year-old Garfield “Chris” Williams, both from Annotto Bay in the parish, have each been charged with two counts of murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

A day after the couple’s murder, Edgehill and Williams were nabbed and Mr Chin’s gun recovered during a police operation in Crab Hole District, Annotto Bay.

The businessman and his wife were gunned down near their home in Claremont, St Mary. Chin’s firearm was reportedly stolen by his attackers. According to police reports, shortly after the couple arrived home about 8:25 pm, waiting gunmen approached and shot Chin as he was on his way to open his gate. His wife was shot while trying to escape from the gunmen. She fell almost in front of a neighbour’s gate, about twenty yards from her home.

Neighbours, who went to investigate after hearing the shots, found the couple. Mrs Chin was pronounced dead in the Annotto Bay Hospital but her husband died on the spot.

The couple had lived alone and had done business in Annotto Bay for years. They were buried on Sunday.
