Computers for the police
WESTERN BUREAU – Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Zhao Zhenyu last Saturday donated three computers, valued at over $300,000 to the St James police department to help the lawmen in their crime-fighting activities.
In making the presentation at the police divisional headquarters in Montego Bay, the ambassador urged the cops to maximise the use of the equipment.
Mayor of Montego Bay Councillor Noel Donaldson, had in July written to the Chinese Ambassador, requesting the equipment. The mayor, at that time, argued that the computers would help the western city’s police provide better service and protection for the business community.
Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area One Charles Scarlett, in accepting the donation, thanked the ambassador for the computers and assured him that the equipment would make a big difference as police officers carry out their duties.
