NWA undertakes road works in Trelawny
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – The National Works Agency (NWA) is currently engaged in a major road patching effort in this parish.
The work is being undertaken along the pothole-riddled stretch of roadway between Falmouth and Martha Brae, a section of the Granville main road and along a portion of the Green Park main road.
“This will bring some level of comfort to the many motorists who ply these routes, but this is a temporary measure. A final repair programme is set to get underway soon,” noted Dr Patrick Harris, the Member of Parliament for North Trelawny.
The road works began on Tuesday, a day after irate taxi operators mounted blockades along the Granville and Green Park roadways, to protest the deplorable road conditions.
Tree limbs, huge boulders and other debris were used to post blockages along various sections of the road. Their action brought vehicular traffic to a standstill while commuters were left stranded, with scores of students unable to attend classes Monday.
Members of the Falmouth Police department, meanwhile, were kept busy most of the morning as they cleared roadblocks that extended over two miles.
Harris has denied that the roadblocks prompted action from the NWA, whose equipment, he said, was in place before the cabbies’ action on Monday.
