JSIF hands over basic school to Warsop community
WARSOP, Trelawny -The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) last week handed over the newly constructed James Edward Basic School to the Warsop community in Trelawny.
The school was constructed at a cost of $7 million, through financing from a soft-loan under the World Bank’s National Community Development Programme (NCDP).
The funds were used to construct a standard modular three classroom basic school, with sanitary and kitchen facilities. Furniture and equipment were also provided.
Keith Byfield, JSIF’s acting finance and administration manager, noted at the handing over ceremony last Wednesday that they had invested more than $118 million in the parish since their inception 10 years ago. Of that sum, he said, $112 million has been used for the rehabilitation, sanitation, equipping and construction of basic, primary and all age schools.
Former South Trelawny Member of Parliament Doreen Chen, who was also present at the function, had high praise for the JSIF team, who she said had contributed to the parish’s development in education. She urged the community to care and respect the new institution.
