Roehampton students to benefit from Sandals Inn’s mentorship
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Students at the Roehampton Primary School in St James are to benefit from Sandals Inn’s recently launched “Support a Child” mentorship programme at the institution.
Jeremy Mutton, the general manager at Sandals Inn, said the initiative, which forms part of the resort’s community outreach programme, would see staff members appointed as mentors for 20 of the school’s young students.
“The mentor will assist with homework, give good guidance and generally make the child feel special,” he said, adding that they would also plan group excursions for the children.
Sandals Inn is also to acquire personnel from the Mind Centre in Montego Bay to train school teachers to identify students with learning deficiency and to implement strategies to assist such students.
The newly appointed school principal, Winston Jennings, thanked the resort for their input in the institution.
“At this point in time, it is one of the best things that could happen to the school. It is something I welcome, something the teachers welcome, something the students welcome.
(This), bearing in mind that as a rural community, we don’t normally get these things very often. So I must say we are very happy,” he said.
