18 injured in bus, truck accident in St Ann
OCHO RIOS, St Ann – Eighteen people were injured yesterday in an accident involving a minibus and a truck along the Laughlands main road here in St Ann. Three of the injured were said to be in critical condition.
The accident involved a green Toyota Hiace minibus (in photo) that operated on the Ocho Rios/Brown’s Town route, and a 10-wheel International tipper truck.
According to the police, shortly after the bus left Ocho Rios, destined for Brown’s Town, the right side of the vehicle brushed the left wheel and left fender of the truck, which was travelling in the opposite direction in the vicinity of the Laughlands post office.
Police said as a result of the impact, the bus got out of control and plunged into a ditch, then rolled several times.
The accident, on a section of the newly built North Coast Highway, followed one last week on another section of the new road, at Priory, that claimed the lives of three people.
