A father of three, who allegedly abducted, drugged then raped a 12-year-old girl, was denied bail in the Home Circuit Court on Friday after making an application on his own behalf.

Church Street, Kingston resident, Stredwick Bewry, also called ‘Audley Nembhard’, begged Justice Kay Beckford to grant him bail, as he needed to undergo surgery.

He argued also that he was the main provider for his three children and that he would be able to retain an attorney once he started working.

However, Beckford refused bail after hearing the allegations and set a February 16 mention date for Bewry to settle legal representation.

It was also revealed in court that Bewry had missed several previous mention dates, as he refused to answer to his name, at the lock-up.

Allegations are that on September 29, 2005, Bewry, who is known to the child, met her as she was leaving school and told her that her mother said she should go with him.

The girl obeyed and allegedly accompanied Bewry in a taxi to his home, where she was given “something to drink” and began losing consciousness. Bewry allegedly took the child to his room, where she regained consciousness to find her underwear on a chair and signs that she had been sexually molested.

Shortly after, the police came to Bewry’s house but he allegedly held a knife to the girl’s throat and covered her mouth. Bewry reportedly released the child after the police left.

The child only reported the matter the following day when her father took her to the doctor for a check-up. Bewry was arrested that day and charged with abduction and rape.
