MP JC Hutchinson to answer disorderly conduct charges today
Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth
Member of Parliament for North West St Elizabeth, JC Hutchinson, will stand trial in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate’s Court today on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and breaches of the Solid Waste Management Act dating back to September 2005.
The charges arose from an incident on the Lacovia main road during islandwide demonstrations on the afternoon of September 6, 2005. The police allege that Hutchinson was seen leading a group of people in blocking the Lacovia main road.
Media reports at the time said Hutchinson, who was identified by the police as the leader of the group, was instructed to remove the roadblocks but refused. The police then attempted to arrest the parliamentarian but was prevented from doing so by the protestors.
Three days later, Hutchinson – who was relieved of his licensed firearm by the police – was served with summonses embracing the charges.
