JLP raises questions about Trafigura money
THE Opposition Jamaica Labour Party has raised questions regarding last week’s announcement by People’s National Party general secretary Donald Buchanan, that the $31 million received last year from Dutch oil trader, Trafigura Beheer, was returned.
The party has asked:
. Why has the PNP not yet provided documented proof that the money was returned?
. Why was the money returned to Trafigura despite the revelation by Trafigura Beheer that the money was part of a commercial transaction?
. How will the government deal with the possibility of Trafigura refusing to accept the money?
. If Trafigura accepts the money, will they acknowledge receipt of the funds?
. In the interest of transparency will the PNP disclose to the public where the $31 million was sourced?
. If the money was sent to Trafigura, how was the payment made?
. If the money was returned in cash, does this violate international regulations concerning the movement of cash across international borders?
. If the money was returned by wire transfer or bank draft, which bank was involved and were the reporting requirements met?
. What bank account or bank accounts were used to facilitate the transaction?
. If no bank account was used what method was used to have the money transferred?
. The prime minister has said consistently that the PNP was raising funds from the little people. Was the money to repay Trafigura contributed by the little people?
The JLP has asked that the questions be answered as soon as possible.
