Woman dies in highway crash
FORTY-EIGHT-year-old Maureen Bishop of Hayes, Clarendon died yesterday afternoon when the minivan her son was driving, skidded along the Sandy Bay leg of Highway 2000 and crashed into a concrete ditch on the opposite side of the road.
Relatives on the scene, who wept openly, said Bishop, who was on her way to the Norman Manley International Airport, was leaving the island to buy goods for resale.
“They just called and said my mother is dead,” said Lisa, Bishop’s daughter.
Constable David Galloway of the May Pen police said Bishop’s two young grandchildren who were traveling in the bus were extremely shaken up and taken to hospital for treatment. They were seated in the rear of the vehicle, while Bishop was traveling in the front passenger seat.
