St Elizabeth communities to get light by August
POUND HILL, St Elizabeth
More than 400 households in communities across north-east St Elizabeth are to benefit from the Rural Electrification Programme (REF) by August, according to People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker for the constituency, Kern Spencer.
Spencer, also the junior minister of Commerce, Science, Energy and Technology, made the announcement earlier this month during a tour of several communities that are without electricity in the area.
“The relevant assessments are now being done in the communities as it relates to population density, and so the households should get electricity by about August,” he told the Observer West yesterday.
Communities to benefit include Content, Bogue, Pound Hill, Pepper, Brases River, Seven Corners and Burnt Savannah.
Spencer noted that the planned electricity project forms part of his plan to bring electricity to every community in the constituency.
“I am committed and determined to bring the basic essentials, which include electricity to the people of north-east St Elizabeth,” Spencer said, adding that rural Jamaica must not be left out of the development plans for
the country.
