Two escape serious injury in plane crash
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Two employees of Air Pak Express escaped serious injury yesterday when this single-engine airplane in which they were travelling crashed in a lushly vegetated area of the Montego Bay Freeport.
The aircraft, registered 6YJHO, reportedly crashed about 20 minutes after take-off from the Negril Aerodrome in Westmoreland after it allegedly developed mechanical problems.
The airplane, Corporal Peter Salkey, the police’s information officer for St James said, was on it’s way to the nearby Sangster International Airport landed with cargo, when it took a ‘nose dive’ in the bushes.
The pilot and the passenger, Salkey said, were airlifted by a Jamaica Defence Force helicopter to hospital. According to Salkey, the plane received damage to its nose while the left wheel was broken off.
