Quarrels over $150, knife leave two dead

MANDEVILLE, Manchester – Quarrels over $150 in one case and a ratchet knife in another left two young men dead and another in hospital with knife wounds in Manchester on Thursday.

Police identified the dead as Dave Gavens, 25, of Ellen Street, South Manchester and 19-year-old Sheldon Nugent of Three Chains in Mandeville. Shaun Roy Richards, 19, of Three Chains was admitted to hospital with knife wounds.

Police say that in the first incident at about 4:30 pm Thursday, Gavens and another man, whose name has been withheld, also of Ellen Street got into a dispute over $150 after Gavens allegedly refused to share. A knife was used to stab Gavens in the lower chest and the left side of his back.

Gavens was taken to hospital and died while undergoing surgery. The police say they are now searching for the suspect.

In the second incident about 9:30 pm, Nugent and Richards reportedly got into an argument with a 21-year-old man, also of Three Chains, over the ownership of a ratchet knife.
