16-y-o rape accused granted bail

A 16-year-old high school boy accused of having sex with a four-year-old girl in February, was granted $80,000 bail at the Home Circuit Court last Friday.

The big-bodied teen, who also allegedly had anal sex with the girl, was slapped with a 9:00 pm curfew order, meaning that if he were picked up outside his house by the police any time after his curfew he would be rearrested and his bail revoked.

Allegations are that the girl was at her father’s house sometime in February when the accused, a friend of the family, came there and had sex with her. Later that day the girl told her father what happened and was taken to the hospital and the police called in. The boy was arrested shortly after.

The court was also told that the teen had previously pleaded guilty but changed his plea at the time he was about to be sentenced.

Attorney Dian Jobson pleaded with Justice Marva McIntosh to release her client from custody because his schooling was being disrupted.

The teen was granted bail with one surety and is required to report to the Harbour View Police Station on Wednesday and Saturday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. He is scheduled for trial on June 27.
