New post offices for Hanover, St James
APPROXIMATELY $10 million is being spent to construct two new post offices in Hopewell, Hanover and Mount Salem in St James under phase two of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC)-run Lift Up Jamaica Programme.
Phase two of the programme is expected to cost $2 billion over a three-year period and is being financed by the Government of Jamaica through the Caracas Energy Agreement Fund.
The new facilities, which are based on a design submitted by the Post Master General’s Office, will boast a public hall, paymaster’s office, clerk’s station, manager’s office, internet cafe, bathroom, kitchen and parking facilities on completion.
Lift Up Jamaica is a short-term employment programme which is managed by the UDC in collaboration with agencies such as the Social Development Commission, HEART Trust/NTA and the Jamaica Defence Force.
