JDF to the rescue
THREE cruise passengers – a man, his wife and nurse – were hoisted successfully from a cruise ship by the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing and flown to the University Hospital of the West Indies on Sunday, the army reported yesterday.
The JDF Air Wing said it received a call at approximately 10:30 am Sunday to conduct a critical medical evacuation about 100 miles South East of Jamaica.
“The mission was to hoist a Mr Joseph Vocaire from the cruise liner, Seven Seas Marina, and transfer him to the University Hospital of the West Indies, as he was in need of urgent medical attention,” the JDF said, adding that it was able to mobilise, deploy and safely execute the evacuation mission by hoisting the patient, his wife and nurse aboard a JDF Bell 412EP helicopter, incident-free, within two-and-half hours of receiving the call.
