Bloody 12 hours in MoBay
MONTEGO BAY, St James –
The St James police have recorded three homicides between Tuesday night and yesterday morning as the menacing sounds of barking guns echoed on three separate occasions, leaving three persons dead in it’s wake.
The police have identified the deceased as 31-year-old businessman, Bertram Calvert of a Bird Hill, St James address; 24-year-old Oniel Cooper, a carpenter of Canterbury, St James; and 34-year-old Michael Wood of Pele Drive Flankers.
The death of the three has pushed the number of violent deaths recorded on the police blotters to 10, since last week, and has also propelled to 131, the total number recorded in the parish since the start of the year.
According to the CCN liaison officer for St James, about 9:10 yesterday morning Wood was standing along Central Avenue, Flankers, when a man walked up and shot him.
He was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A quantity of spent shells were recovered from the scene. The Coral Gardens police are investigating.
Meanwhile, about 8:15 Tuesday night, Calvert was at his business place at the People’s Arcade, Montego Bay when he was pounced upon by a lone gunman who chased him and shot him all over the body. He was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Montego Bay CIB who are investigating say they recovered three 9mm spent shells from the scene.
In the other incident residents of Canterbury reported that they heard loud explosions in the community about 8:15. The police were summoned and upon arrival found Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds. Two 9 mm spent shells were recovered from the scene.
