Bigger computer lab for William Knibb
The computer lab at the William Knibb Memorial High School in Trelawny is to be expanded at the expense of the South Florida Chapter of the Alumni, which will stage its annual reunion weekend with a number of activities in South Florida starting tomorrow.
The event is expected to bring together past students of the Martha Brae-based institution from Jamaica, United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
The festivities will kickoff with a welcome party at the residence of Patricia Robinson on Friday evening and a welcome breakfast at the home of Madge Johnson on Saturday.
According to the president of the South Florida Chapter, Trevor Dale, “The William Knibb Memorial High School Alumni reunion has become an annual event, whereby past students and friends of Trelawny get together to support the institution that has greatly assisted them in moving forward in their education”. Dale pointed out that the main highlight of the weekend activities would be the annual Fund-Raising Dinner and Dance on Saturday, at the Best Western Hotel, Plantation, Fort Lauderdale starting at 9:30 pm.
Attorney-at-law Philmore Scott, a past student of William Knibb Memorial High School, will be the guest speaker at the event while Dania Wynter, principal of the institution will give an update on the performance of the school.
Falmouth’s Sly, Slick and Wicked Disco will provide
the music.
The weekend ends on Sunday, October 21, when members will attend the annual picnic at the Markham Park commencing at midday and the staging of the Annual General Meeting, where new officers will be elected.
Named after Baptist emancipator the Rev William Knibb, the school was founded by the Rev Stephen James, former pastor of the Duncans Baptist Church, some 46 years ago when the parish of Trelawny had only one high school.
It has since outgrown its original location at the Old William Knibb Baptist Mans on Market Street, Falmouth and is now a Government Grant Aid school located on Holland Road, Martha Brae near Falmouth with a student population of over 1,300 students.
