CBA to honour Chief Justice, Apellate Court president
LUANA, St Elizabeth –
A special function in honour of Chief Justice Zaila McCalla and Court of Appeal president, Justice Seymour Panton is set for the Luana Country Club in St Elizabeth this Saturday.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding is expected to be the guest speaker at the function, which is being staged by the Cornwall Bar Association (CBA).
“We are honouring these two luminaries of the legal profession because we believe that they have made great sacrifices for the good of the judiciary and the profession,” said CBA president, Clayton Morgan.
Both Justices hail from western Jamaica and were recently honoured with the Order of Jamaica (OJ). Justice Panton is a past student of Rusea’s High School in Hanover, where he served as Head Boy, while Justice McCalla hails from Westmoreland and attended the Montego Bay High School in St James.
Justice minister and attorney general, Dorothy Lightbourne, is expected to greet the function on behalf of the bar, while several other dignitaries including past presidents of the CBA, representatives of the Jamaica Bar Association, members of parliament, mayors, custoses and judges are also expected to be in attendance.
