Orange CC seek semi spot
ORANGE, St James
Orange Cricket Club will this Saturday secure the first semi-final berth in the St James Cricket Association’s parish league if they can beat Montego Bay Cricket Club (MBCC) in their final round game at Orange, starting at 10:00 am.
Orange CC leads the point’s standings with 40 points, 10 more than Riahs with four clubs MBCC, Overton CC,
Cambridge CC and Roehampton CC all on 20 points. Farm Heights is next on 10 while Granville has lost all their games so far this season.
While the preliminary rounds will end this weekend, there are a number of rescheduled games still to be played, including the set of games that were down to be played on February 7th which will now be played next weekend; the first round game between Farm Heights and Roehampton which will be played on February 22nd and last weekend’s game between MBCC and Roehampton that will now be played on
March 8th.
Orange is coming off a six-wicket win over Farm last week and a win on Saturday would secure one of the four semi-final places.
MBCC is, however, one of the five other clubs chasing one of the semi-final spots and will be no pushover.
Second-placed Riahs will face Roehampton at Roehampton; Farm Heights and Cambridge will meet at Jarrett Park while Overton and Granville will meet at Barnett Oval.
Last week Orange made light work of Farm, making 98 for four wickets in response to 96.
Vinroy Crooks hit 64 and Oneil English had 17 not out for Orange after Kelroy Haughton had taken four wickets for 25 runs off 10 overs and Rupert Green took three wickets for four runs off three overs with one maiden.
Overton won their second game by five wickets over Cambridge as Oral Rankine took seven wickets for 18 runs off 12 overs with five maidens.
Cambridge were skittled out for 79 which included 26 extras and Overton replied by making 80 for five.
Explosive innings from Chachon Chambers, national representative Shaun Findley and Carlington Johnson carried Riahs to a big eight-wicket win over Granville at Barnett Oval.
After bowling Granville out for 158 in 31.2 overs, Riahs knocked off the run in just 19.4 overs.
Chambers hit eight fours and two sixes in his knock of 57, Finley’s 49 included six fours and three sixes while Johnson’s 33 had four fours and a six.
Mario Dennison led Granville with 41, Wayne Keane made 36 and Andre Morris scored 23 for Granville against Christopher Watson’s three for 22.
