Winston Webb to represent Jamaica in Caribbean Model Finals
A few weeks ago, the idea of modelling never crossed the mind of 19-year-old Winston Webb, a water sports attendant at Beaches Negril.
In fact, when friends encouraged him to participate in a local modelling competition, he thought it was a joke. However, he was cajoled into doing it and was selected to represent his hotel in the Negril regional segment of the Sandals inter-hotel talent and modelling competition (ENCORE).
He surprised himself when he captured the male model title, which paved the way for him to advance to the nationals at Sandals Dunn’s River.
Dwight Peters – CEO of the high-flying Saint International Agency, which offered contracts to the top male and female models served on the panel of judges for that competition.
And guess what? He won!
Amazing, when you consider he’d never seen a live fashion show before.
Now, armed with a wealth of raw potential, Webb is set to face-off with Caribbean male models representing Antigua, St Lucia, Turks and Caiços, and The Bahamas for the ENCORE Male Model of the Caribbean title at the grand finals of the competition over the first weekend of October.
Winston grew up near Sav-la-Mar. He attended Paul Island Primary and went on to Grange Hill High school where he participated in various sporting activities. He enjoys listening music and plays the drums at his church.
A calm personality, he seems to be taking his recent modelling achievement with genuine modesty. “If it is God’s will that something positive comes, then I go with it,” he told Way out west.
