Cruise ship pier concerns for Mayor’s Forum today
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – Burning issues concerning the $7.5-billion cruise ship pier in this seaport town will take the spotlight at today’s quarterly ‘Mayor’s Forum’ being hosted by Mayor of Falmouth Colin Gager.
The meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm, will be held at the Falmouth Town Hall in Water Square. Representatives from the Port Authority of Jamaica, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Pihl and YP Seaton Associates – the contractors for the project – as well as environmentalists are expected to attend.
“We have assembled a team of experts to answer the myriad of questions that are being asked about the project by the public, so we have put this powerful team together,” Gager told the Observer West.
Added Gager: “We want to tell the residents, for example, about the shops that will be constructed. the opportunities that will be available to them… so that they can be a part of it.”
Earlier this month there was a brief work stoppage on the project when several supporters of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) marched on the site demanding work.
The group, which was led by PNP member of parliament for North Trelawny, Dr Patrick Harris, claimed that the work was being distributed in a partisan manner.
