Two arrested following robbery of telecom exec
MONTEGO BAY, St James – The police in this resort town arrested two men on Tuesday following the carjacking of a telecommunications executive, as she picked up her child from a prominent prep school here on Monday.
Twenty-three-year-old labourer Anthony ‘Sonny’ Russell of Springfield and 45-year-old taxi operator Steven Wray of Summer Hill are booked to face the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court and the Western Regional Gun Court on Monday November 23 to answer charges of robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, assault at common law and receiving stolen property.
According to the police at about 5:00 pm on Monday, the executive picked up her son in the parking lot of the school which was conducting a parent teachers meeting. After her son took the front passenger seat and closed the door of the vehicle she heard the back door slam.
It was a man brandishing a handgun who demanded that she drive. But she and her son jumped out and ran.
She immediately reported the matter to a policeman who was also at the school to collect his child.
However, the robber escaped in her motor car.
Fortunately the car was equipped with a tracking device system which allowed the police to trace it to the Railway Lane community where Wray and Russell were found in possession of two BlackBerry cell phones among other valuables belonging to the executive.
