THE world will end in 2012… or so says the scientific studies of various scholars, and the Mayan calendar. With that said, it would be safe to say that this adventure-filled movie is a sci-fi flick developed around those scientific studies.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, known for Independence Day and The Day after Tomorrow, the movie pretty much takes you through all the possible disasters that can happen to one place. The movie portrays the ending of the world from the perspectives of different families from the different regions. Ultimately, all these families become interrelated and tell their story of the stuggles for survival. The storyline was made more realistic with the cast — John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Chiwetel Ejiofor; convincingly playing the roles of frightened citizens being affected by the extreme changes.

Though slightly predictable, the story line was interesting, at the least, as there were some slightly unexpected twists. The graphics too, were quite clean and mostly realistic especially in the adventure scenes.

The use of everyday language and the clean, clear directing made this sci-fi movie one worth watching. The cast, the events and the suspense built around the world ending produced a fluid storyline that is almost believeable. If the world was supposed to end in 2012, then the movie was successsful in portraying how it would be done.
