Rae Town, Santos atop Super League
CAVALIER lost the lead in the Claro/KSAFA Super League competition after Steve Richard’s 80th-minute strike secured a 1-1 tie for hosts Real Mona 10 minutes from time at Buttercup Park yesterday.
In other matches, Rae Town stopped JDF 2-0; Santos turned back Constant Spring 3-0; Barbican edged Duhaney Park 1-0; Meadhaven blanked Maverley/Hughenden 6-0, while the game between Bull Bay and Mountain View ended 1-1.
The results restored Rae Town to top spot in the league on goal difference over Santos. Cavalier, with 21 points, trail the front-running duo by a point.
At Buttercup Park, Dominic Moses’ own-goal three minutes into the match gave Cavalier a 1-0 lead until 10 minutes from time, when Richards latched onto a cross from the left and stabbed into the roof of the net to earn the home team a point.
At Up Park Camp, Orlando Walters netted both goals in the first half as Rae Town came away with full points.
Santos, with a brace from Fabian Nethersole — who scored his fifth goal in two games — and one from Demetrio Billett, gave the Carlton Dennis-coached side victory over Constant Spring at Bell/Chung Oval.
In the result of the round, Meadhaven lifted themselves from the bottom of the table for the first time this season after Omary Edwards scored four times in their 6-0 demolition of relegation strugglers Maverley/Hughenden at Maverley Park.
Terrence Bernard scored the other two goals for the visiting Meadhaven.
At Barbican field, Sheldon Davey scored a goal on 21 minutes for the hosts to beat Duhaney Park by the lone goal.
At Bull Pen, Troyland Williams’ goal two minutes after the break earned Mountain View a point, after Jermaine Edwards had put them ahead on six minutes.
Constant Spring follow Cavalier in the standings with 17 points. JDF have 16, Mountain View and Barbican 15, Real Mona 10, Bull Bay nine, Duhaney Park six, Meadhaven five and Maverley three.
In the Major League, UWI maintained their one-point advantage above Central Kingston after scoring a 3-2 win against Olympic Gardens.
In other games, Central Kingston stopped Police National 1-0; Whitfield Town beat Cooreville Gardens 2-0; Greenwich Town had a 3-1 win over Molynes United; Liguanea and Rockfort drew 1-1, and Swallowfield and Brown’s Town played to a similar score.
At UWI Bowl, Jeffrey Brown bagged a brace as UWI outscored Olympic Gardens. Kemar Cousins also scored twice in Whitfield’s win over Cooreville.
Central Kingston got the better of Police through goals in the last 10 minutes from Maurice Clarke and Kirk Thomas.
UWI lead the standings with 16 points, ahead of Central with 15, Police 14, Whitfield 12, Rockfort and Greenwich 11 and Brown’s Town eight.
