ARIMA, Trinidad (CMC) — Locally-bred colt Just In Time captured one of the main feature events, the Jamaica Stakes, on the eight-race programme at Santa Rosa Park on Saturday.

Ridden by Venezuelan jockey Richard Perez, the 5-2 shot raced off the pace before picking up the running in the stretch and racing to the post by 1-1/4 lengths to claim the TT$ 45,000 (US$ 7,177) event sponsored by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association of Jamaica (TOBA).

Going 1350 metres, Perez kept Just In Time in touch with the leaders in the curtain event before tackling Mission King and favourite Mister Kingston going to the far turn.

The four-year-old then sprinted clear in the straight to win in one minute, 21.20 seconds ahead of the fast finishing Sound of Thunder with Rickey Jadoo aboard, and Mister Kingston who finished third with Nela Mohammed in the saddle.

United States-bred colt Bristling also turned in a superb performance to win the Imported Sprint over 1,200 metres on the main track.

Trained by John O’brien, the two-year old bay colt with Mohammed aboard, looked sharp over the early going and quickened to pull away from Princess Indra and stylishly win by four lengths in 1:12.00.

Miss High Octane finished third some 4 1/2 lengths back, while Rewardinheaven finished a disappointing fourth.
