Quorum or no quorum…
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Western Basketball Association will proceed with its biennial election exercise this Sunday, with or without the required quorum.
The elections were due to be held at the Montego Bay Cricket Club last Sunday but only seven of the 18 affiliated clubs were present — less than the quorum needed for an election.
Deon Williams, one of the four vice-presidents and one of those seeking re-election, told the Observer West earlier this week that 24 representatives, or two each from a minimum two-thirds or 12 clubs, constitute a quorum.
He said however that following last week’s aborted meeting, elections would be held this weekend and also warned that clubs which do not turn up would be fined at the start of the next season.
In addition to Williams, president Charles Stephenson will also be seeking his own mandate after taking over from Ronald Beckford in 2007.
Secretary Janet Hamilton is also seeking re-election.
There will be three new vice-presidents after the resignation of Andre Morgan, vice-president of finance; the expressed disinterest of Galton Taylor, vice-president of development and the migration of Khurt Comrie, the vice-president for marketing.
