Campion 4th former invited to People to People Leadership Summit
FOURTH former Leah Singh is among a number of outstanding Campion College students recognised by the US-based People to People Leadership Summit with an invitation to participate in the 2010 summer programmes scheduled for Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Singh was selected on the basis of her high academic standing and promising leadership potential.
The programme, founded by former US president Dwight D Eisenhower in 1956, is aimed at developing leadership skills in young people and helping them to discover their own potential.
Participants experience life-changing attitudes toward individual and shared responsibilities, global leadership, appreciation for cultural diversity, and enhanced personal growth and self-confidence.
Students are nominated through several sources, including educators at their schools and by ranking in the top percentile on several academic measurements.
Singh, who is a peer counsellor and a member of the Student Council, received the ICWI Jennifer Cox Scholarship for Academic Excellence in 2006 and 2008 on the basis of academic performance and leadership qualities beyond the classroom, with active participation in the wider society through extra-curricular activities.
She worships at Stella Maris Church where she is a dedicated altar server who trains other young people for the Altar Serving Ministry.
Singh, a violinist, is a member of the Jamaica Young People Symphony and the Music House String Ensemble.
