The Banker’s deal
WITH the year drawing to a close I am somewhat hopeful that someone will relieve me of some of this money, after all, how many yachts and European vacations does one person need.
Tonight is a special night for Digicel Deal or No Deal as we have decided to give back. Not to the contestants but to charity. We too have a soft heart for the Bustamante Hospital for Children and earning so much money sometimes rests on my conscience, so I decided to invite the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation to the show to see if an unselfish act can bear fruit. Like our United States counterparts who have hosted some editions to raise awareness for good causes, we too have decided to do the same.
So since my efforts to give to the contestants themselves doesn’t seem to be working, I personally called Chris Martin to see if he could win some money for charity. For those who don’t know, Christopher Martin — who is a very close friend of mine — is quite the talented singer and performer. I just hope he can rise to the occasion and allow me to donate some money to the Shaggy Make A Wish Foundation.
This promises to be quite an exciting twist to the show and one that I must take all the credit for. My many brilliant tips throughout the weeks will definitely help Chris and I am so looking forward to a good fight. I just hope that Christopher Martin is ready to enter my world. If all else fails, I will just give Simon a bonus.
On a side note, there was a letter to the Jamaica Observer that was published yesterday which poured scorn on my column and accused me of treating the contestants on Digicel Deal or No Deal with ‘disdain’.
I must say that I was taken aback by the tone of the letter. It was spurious, without foundation and a wanton attack on my good name. The fact is, no where else on Jamaican TV can a person have the chance of winning three million dollars in one hour. And based on the fact that you have such intimate knowledge of the show, it is clear that you are a big fan, if not the biggest.
To appear on Digicel Deal or No Deal is a privilege and not a right. Contestants should give thanks for having the opportunity of sharing in my wealth. You should be thankful.
Finally, if you are so concerned about the way I treat contestants on the show, why not come on and see if you can outdo their puny efforts.
Try and win some money; maybe that will make you a happier person.
