Skipper lauds Hinds, seeks early victory
JAMAICA’S captain Tamar Lambert will be gunning for the jugular on today’s third day of their four-day game against the Windward Islands at Chedwin Park.
The Jamaicans ended yesterday in total command after a superb 95 from former West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds propelled them to 335 all out, replying to the Windward’s first-innings score of 181 for a sizeable lead of 154.
The visitors were dealt a devastating blow when fastbowler Andrew Richardson clean bowled West Indies opener Devon Smith for a first-ball duck as they closed on 19-1.
“It was a good day for us… and getting rid of Devon Smith was a bonus… so we’ll be looking to get all nine wickets come tomorrow (today),” said Lambert.
“Anything over 100, we would be happy just the same, but a 154 lead in any cricket is a good lead,” he added.
Hinds, who walked to the crease at 151-5, batted sensibly for 201 minutes while sharing in two half-century stands for the sixth and seventh wickets with David Bernard Jnr and Carlton Baugh Jnr, respectively.
And Lambert had nothing but high praises for the former national captain.
“That is the reason why Wavell Hinds is in the team; he’s an experienced person who played at the international level for the West Indies… so we expect nothing less from Wavell,” Lambert said. “I know that he’s disappointed in not carrying on to triple figures, but he batted very well for his 95, building a lot of partnerships down the order,” he added.
